Back from IFIP 2005 in Orlando, DFRWS 2005 in New Orleans

Just got back from IFIP 2005 in Orlando. There were a few groovy papers, including some work on forensics investigation of iPODs and some hardcore cellular phone work. To get around phone OS limitations that prevent recovering deleted contacts, text messages, etc. a Norwegian guy desoldered the flash in a number of cellular phones and proved that data recovery is possible. Our research group presented our paper on content-based image retrieval for digital forensics--essentially, the performance of using these "fuzzy" hashes for image matching.

The Digital Forensics Research Workshop is confirmed for New Orleans in 2005. It will be held at the Astor Crown Plaza Hotel, at the edge of the French Quarter. We have a nice PC lined up. The Call for Papers can be found at www.dfrws.org.

Oh, and Golden says check out www.starbuckssucks.com.
