IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS:
I generally work in computer security, specifically, in digital
forensics. If you are interested in working with me as a
Ph.D. student, M.S. student, or on an undergraduate independent study project,
there are a few important issues to consider:
- Most of the work I do is experimental and requires a significant
amount of design, hair-pulling, and programming. I'm sorry, but all
of my research projects are time-consuming. Please don't ask me for an
"easy" thesis topic.
- You must be able to write English well or have a native speaker
available to help you write good technical prose. Documentation,
theses, reports, and papers need to be readable and need to be
grammatically correct.
- You should be seriously interested in systems if you want to work
with me. If the thought of programming (typically in C or Perl, but
occasionally in a variety of other languages), reading source code, or
bit operators makes you recoil in horror, we're not the
right match.
- No, you don't have to wear a bow tie.
With all that said, if you're interested in systems research and
willing to work hard, I'd love to chat with you about potential
research and associated opportunities.
